Itinerary
Arrive in Winnipeg where you will enjoy a relaxing pre-safari stay. Meet your group and adventure specialist at dinner which will be about 6pm, then get a good night’s rest for an early start tomorrow.
Arrive in Churchill by air and then be transferred by fixed wing aircraft, over the historic Churchill River and then northwest up the rugged Hudson Bay coast, to Dymond Lake Lodge. Upon your arrival your hosts will provide a tour of the facilities and you’ll have chance to get settled into your room. A thorough orientation about polar bear safety and the surrounding areas will be provided prior to any outings. Today includes a guided hike around the rugged and starkly beautiful coastline, an interpretive slide show featuring the wildlife of Hudson Bay and hopefully a clear night for viewing the Aurora Borealis! All this will be topped off with a gourmet lunch and dinner where your hosts and guides will regale you with tales of life and adventures in Canada's Arctic.
Overnight: Dymond Lake Lodge(B, L, D)
Obviously we cannot allow the bears to approach too closely and your guides are expert in keeping bears at a safe distance without sacrificing exciting viewing. Polar bears are known to pass the lodge on a regular basis so you can often view them through the massive picture windows from the warmth and comfort of one of the lounges
Lunches are served at the lodge and we are generally back at there by 4:00pm for hot or cold drinks and appetizers. Your dinners are served at 7:00pm after which, you can relax by the roaring fire. Your guide team will give informative lectures and beautiful slide presentations as well as initiating discussions about the activities for the following day. The entire lodge area is patrolled for polar bears all night by one of our night watchmen so be prepared to have your sleep cut short by a nocturnal visit by one of the Great Ice Bears (or by a dazzling display of the Northern Lights!).
Overnight: Dymond Lake Lodge(B, L, D)
After breakfast, we transfer by air back to Churchill, spending the day with a guide exploring its rich history as a seaport and visiting the Itsanitaq Museum, the Polar Bear Holding Compound (otherwise known as the Polar Bear Jail), as well as the Parks Canada exhibit. Dog sledding and helicopter charters also fit nicely into this afternoon if you’re so inclined, before a group dinner. Then it will be back to your hotel or B&B so you can rest up for your sixth and final day with the bears.
Overnight: Churchill in Arctic Canada Polar Region(B, L, D)
Today you will travel across the tundra in the world famous Tundra Buggies for more polar bear viewing! Transportation by bus to and from the Tundra Buggies is provided at 8:00am and 5:00pm respectively, make sure you grab some breakfast before you go. Lunch "with the bears" will be prepared and served to you on the tour. Tundra Buggies are chartered so there are fewer guests for better views and a higher level of comfort. After your last day with the bears, you will be escorted to the airport for your flight to Winnipeg.
Today you will catch your flight home, or, if you haven’t had enough of the bears yet, please contact us about the many options that can be added on
